Even though it's not really worth it you can trake them apart when they go bad and clean them up...


Failure is usually the result of debris lodged in ball seat or the spring losing some tension on the ball..

You beat me to it. I have set of pics showing about the same thing. I used the casing as a fitting after I tossed out those pesky little parts.
