Title: My car, some info. 60" is the goal.
Post by: Hydros on July 10, 2004, 03:26:15 PM
The goal is to get approx. 60" using 8 batteries, or 7.5" a battery.

Car was purchased already reinforced. It appeared to have been a hopper and for side to side use. - Story goes that the car was first owned by a hydraulic shop that hopped it. It was sold to Mr.Payne, and then I got it via ebay, it was a damn good deal, equipped with spokes, and 4 pumps with aircraft hydraulics. I had a system of using two different ebay users accounts and accidentally bid against myself, I might have won the car for less than $1,300. but got it for $1,500 still a good deal.

When I got it, the car needed a lot of work. I could only hop a few inches using two pumps. I have not touched a lifted car in over 20 years. Meaning, I plan to make a lot of mistakes, learn a lot and share on what not to do, so that other can learn too.

3-5-05 almost 16 months after I bought the car I finally got a real chance to work on it. After patching up some frame cracks, cut out the old battery tray and installed a real tray, I am 98% done with the tray. This week the hold down studs and cross bars go in.

It's got 10 group 31's going 5 and 5 sideways. This does not allow me legal lengths using LRM rules for metal. I seen this on a car at BMH, it was Pinkys. All ten batteries just fit with about 1/4" to spare.

One thought is to use a Pesco pump for the rear of this hopper... Different or what. Overall, the hoppers about 15% completed.

update:
4-10-05

It did hop approx 26" 7 batteries, unknown front coils, 3 1/2 ton rears (trying to break them in for the front) BMH pistion pump.  Before this a ball joint busted and just after this the 3,000 PSI check valve and cheap fitting busted.

UPDATE almost 8 years later...

With all the different new innovations and cirrus cars, it has been decided to forget about hopping the highest, it is now " per battery. This way, if a rider wants to hop higher, add more volts.

This IMO is considered to be the new frontier, instead of finding a way to adding another battery to get higher, clean out the trunk and use as fewer batteries as possible to do some decent street action.
